2008 AMATEUR SINGING CONTEST
The second session of the Amateur Singing Contest.
After the success of the 2006/07 edition of the Contest,
preparations began almost immediately for the new
competition. Registration began soon after the finals, last April 2007,
and the contestants began rehearsing in July or throughout
the year, as they registered.
The first, second and third Wednesday of every month
was reserved for the rehearsals, at Cervejaria Downtown in
Toronto. The same happened on Tuesdays at Laurinda’s, in
Bradford.
The quarter-finals of the competition were held on the
last Wednesday of every month, beginning in October until
February. Each time, a group of contestants was selected under
two categories: Youth and Adult. This separation on the basis
of age seemed sensible since it allows for a qualified analysis
of each contestant’s qualities, taking into account
characteristics that are to be expected for each group.
In March we then proceeded to select the finalists over two semi-finals: one on the 5th and the other on the 19th of the
month. In each event five contestants were chosen, for a grand
total of 10 that will compete now in the Finals, on April 19th
at Casa da Madeira.
